Marathon Training Week 5

A target of 30 miles got off to a great start, with a confidence boosting, fast 7 mile run with and then a good interval session with Bill and Evie.

But after a busy end to the working week (and a couple of nights with a lower than ideal amount of sleep) it was forced home that January training really makes it tough. In preparation for next week’s Charnwood Hills 14 mile race, I went for a 12 mile cross country run at the end the week. There was lots of mud, and plenty of up’s and down’s. With tired legs from the word go, it was a long tough run – even Gracie found it hard going. After running only 11.5 miles I tried to extend the run by coming home using ‘the long route’ but Gracie knew better and cut the corners heading back a more direct path, so in the end we completed approximately 11.8 miles.

Despite falling 2 miles short of my target, the tough cross country session makes me feel ok with that – the mud and hills certainly contributed towards those extra couple of miles.
