Charnwood Hills Race

This week was all about building up to the 14 miles Charnwood Hills race. Billed as Leicestershire’s Only fell race and certainly one of the most popular and challenging that the county has to offer. The route takes in Leicester’s number one natural beauty spot, Bradgate Park, with the first ‘peak’ being Old John. From there we crossed Lingdale Golf Course, dodging the sunday morning drivers and went onto climb Broombriggs country park and Beacon Hill – a climb of almost 1000ft throughout the whole race.

The timing of the race also adds to the problems facing the runners. Last year there was snow on the ground, this year it was MUD, there was plenty of it and it certainly made the legs heavy. So all in all I was pleased with my time on the course- 2 hours 24 minutes, placing me 239th out of the 382 runners who started the run.

Don’t be fooled by the ground shown in these 3 pictures, there was lots of mud around, just look closely at me lower legs.
